WYSONG True Non-Thermal Freeze-Dried Raw DOG FOOD Review

With a score of 8.3, Wysong’s True Non-thermal Freeze-dried Raw is considered low-risk and has the highest ranking of its 5 lines. This line also contains treats, which aren’t included in these averages. Its protein average is 47% across its 4 recipes. The average carb content is 13%. The rabbit version comes in at 19.5% carbs so loses a quality point. 

The website states: “Micro ingredients” and nutrients are blended into the meats at minor yet meaningful levels.” The fact remains that excessive vitamins and minerals have been added rather than relying on the ingredients for nutrients. Points are lost for that. Five or more added minerals indicate a lower quality food that’s lacking naturally occurring vitamins and minerals from whole food sources. 

On the ingredient safety side, Wysong has used organic blueberries, wheat grass, and barley grass in these foods but the remaining ingredients are not organic. These foods lose a point for using natural flavor – and it’s in the top 5 ingredients. Natural flavors are often animal digest or MSG, which are low-quality ingredients with limited safety studies. This line also contains yeast extract, which is another name for MSG, so there’s a lot of added flavor for food that claims to have high-quality ingredients. 

The Archetype burger is the only food in this line to include an extensive list of fruits and vegetables. However, the recipe loses a point for using lecithin, a known GMO ingredient. Spinach, celery, and apples are also used costing another safety point. They are known to contain higher pesticide/herbicide residues and appear on the Environmental Working Group’s Dirty Dozen list. 

The line contains added probiotics but doesn’t guarantee the CFU (colony forming units).
