Wysong’s canned food is considered moderate risk. The line includes 2 complete and balanced foods that received a score of 6. This line has 6 limited ingredient products but only one of the 5 ingredients is a protein. The other 4 ingredients are water, preservatives (natural), natural flavour and guar gum. They aren’t considered balanced by AAFCO guidelines so they haven’t been added into the canned food averages. The 2 balanced foods average 36% protein and 22% carbs.
These foods are still considered highly processed, and also lose safety points for using natural flavour and rice, which is often contaminated with arsenic. They lose quality points for the higher carb content and for having excessive vitamins and minerals added. Five or more added minerals indicate a lower quality food that’s lacking naturally occurring minerals from whole food sources. However, they don’t have added amino acids. Hemicellulose extract has also been added which is a low quality fiber. On the positive side, both of these recipes include some organic ingredients. They are labeled grain-free but contain sweet potatoes and rice which adds to the carb content.
The ratio of omega 6:3 fatty acids is not provided. Omega-6 fats are inflammatory and AAFCO allows a very high ratio of 30:1, so this is a concern.
