Viva Raw Dog Food Reviews

Viva was founded in 2020 by Jenn Wu and Zach Ao, and their dog Karoo, in Hillsborough, NC. They produce 2 lines of chunked and ground raw dog foods, and a line of cat food with 5 recipes. Their products are made in a third-party kitchen in North Carolina.

IS VIVA RAW A GOOD DOG FOOD?

Viva produces two lines of raw dog food that are both considered low risk dog foods. Both lines offer single protein recipes. Viva For Dogs is a raw dog food available in ground or chunked texture, and includes organic fruits and vegetables. Viva Pure is a prey model product made up of muscle meat, bones and organs.

The company website provides additional product information including a detailed guaranteed analysis for each recipe along with the omega-3:omega-6 ratio. The company is also very transparent about its sourcing and responds to customer inquiries.

The company uses fruits and vegetables that are certified organic, and their supplements are certified organic or wild-caught when possible (for marine products like fish oil or cod liver oil). For this reason there are no high pesticide or GMO ingredients in their dog foods and they maintain an unblemished quality and safety score.

Viva has a strong focus on sourcing animals that are humanely treated. The company sources its meat from USDA-inspected smaller farms that don’t use hormones or antibiotics, and are certified humane through third-party audits like Global Animal Partnerships (GAP) or the American Humane Program. The chicken and poultry ingredients are certified by a third-party animal welfare certification recognized by Shop With Your Heart®, a program of the ASPCA®. The company is also working to certify 100% of their beef and turkey ingredients as animal welfare certified by the end of 2023.

Viva uses a co-packing kitchen where their products are the first and only pet food made in a facility that also produces human food. Everything is made in small batches (each package is hand-labeled and checked for quality) and tested for pathogens. The company doesn’t use high pressure processing (HPP) or irradiation.

Overall, this is a high ranking raw dog food with several single protein options.
