Raw Wild Premium Raw Dog Food

Raw Wild is a small raw dog food company. The ownership is unclear.

Raw Wild is processed and packaged in Salt Lake City, Utah. The company uses a co-packer that also makes human-grade products. It’s made in small batches. It’s available online through the company website.

IS RAW WILD A GOOD DOG FOOD?

Raw Wild is a minimally processed dog food. It has a score of 9/10, and is a low risk dog food. We base this on the criteria of dogfoodreviews.com. There is 1 recipe with 60% protein. Carbohydrates are negligible. These are very favorable ratios for a raw dog food.

Raw Wild dog food is 99.4% wild elk and deer. The animals are free-range. They’re from the Rocky Mountain region of the western United States.

They use an 85/15% ratio of meat to ground bone. There are no organs as they’re left in the field by the hunters. The company chose not to add organ meat from other animal sources. This avoids contamination from mycotoxins and pesticides. These can come from factory farmed animals. Without organs, it’s not a typical prey model diet. This food requires a vitamin and mineral supplement. It balances the food to AAFCO standards.

This causes a loss of quality points. They don’t use the typical vitamin and minerals premix. The company website states the ratios were calculated by an industry leading, PhD expert. He has 30+ years in formulating pet foods. It is custom blended. The recipe is complete and balanced for all ages. Vitamins and minerals are sourced in the US. The exceptions are vitamins A, D and E that they source from Switzerland.

One concern is sodium selenite as the source of selenium. Some research suggests that sodium selenite may be associated with potential toxicity. Selenium yeast is the preferred form of this mineral.

On the safety side, all of these recipes score 10/10 for ingredient safety which is certainly noteworthy. They are minimally processed foods. They haven’t been heat-processed. Nutrients aren’t lost through processing. These foods are formulated without produce. That eliminates high pesticide/herbicide or GMO ingredients.

Raw Wild doesn’t provide the omega-6:omega-3 ratio. This is true of most companies. It’s a concern because AAFCO allows a very inflammatory ratio of 30:1. Diets rich in omega-6 fats can cause chronic inflammation.
