Little Hunter began in 2022 in Wisconsin where it’s made. The company makes each recipe in small batches and ships from its online store.
Little Hunter produces a line of freeze-dried dog foods that are low risk by our criteria. The company offers 4 recipes that score 9.9/10.
The average protein content of these recipes is 47%. Average carbohydrates are low at 10% which is what we expect to see in freeze-dried dog foods. The recipes don’t include grains, starches or legumes that add unnecessary carbohydrates. However, the Rabbit recipe has higher carbohydrates which costs a point. The recipe includes sweet potatoes which contribute to the higher carbs.
One of the noteworthy things about these foods is that there are no added vitamins in any of the recipes. However, trace amounts of a few minerals are added. This speaks highly of the quality of the whole food ingredients. They don’t require synthetic supplements. Additionally, these are freeze dried foods. There is light processing that does not affect the nutritional value.
Each recipe uses a single protein. They include organs and bones from animals raised on pasture. All produce used is organic so it is non-GMO and has low pesticide risk. Ingredients are sourced in the US, and made in Wisconsin. Recipes meet AAFCO guidelines for adult dogs.
It’s noteworthy that the fish products and oils used are from wild caught sources. Wild caught fish is preferred as it’s more nutritious and has a better fatty acid balance.
The company is one of few to provide its omega-6 to omega-3 ratio which is 3:1. This is good to know as AAFCO allows a very inflammatory ratio of 30:1.
Little Hunter has had no recalls or voluntary withdrawals to date.
