Dog Food Recall: United Pet Group Recalls Various Brands of Rawhide Chew Products for Dogs Due to Possible Chemical Contamination

Cause: Possible contamination with a quaternary ammonium compound mixture

Announcement: FDA recall notice dated Feb. 8, 2018

What was recalled: Rawhide dog chews under brand names American Beefhide, Digest-eeze, Healthy Hide, Healthy Hide Good n Fun, Healthy Hide Good n Fit

United Pet Group is voluntarily recalling multiple brands of rawhide dog chews due to possible contamination with an antimicrobial chemical used as a processing aid in manufacturing. The products included in the recall have an expiration date from 06/01/2019 through 05/31/2020.

Affected brands include American Beefhide, Diegest-eeze, Healthy Hide, Healthy Hide Good n Fun, and Healthy Hide Good n Fit rawhide chews that were manufactured in facilities in Mexico, Colombia, and Brazil. The facilities use a quaternary ammonium compound mixture to clean food processing equipment, but this chemical has not been approved in the U.S. as a processing aid for production of rawhide chews for dogs.

United Pet Group received some reports of unpleasant odor, diarrhea, and vomiting from customers of the affected rawhide chews.
