What was recalled: Sportmix brand dog and cat food

Midwestern Pet Foods, Inc. is voluntarily recalling various dog and cat food products due to tests that detected levels of aflatoxin that exceed acceptable limits. The affected pet foods were distributed nationwide via online and retail stores.

Recalled lots of dog food include 50#Sportmix Energy Plus (Lots Exp 03/02/22/05/L2, 03/02/22/05/L3, 03/03/22/05/L2), 44#Sportmix Energy Plus (Lots 03/02/22/05/L3), 50#Sportmix Premium High Energy (Lots 03/03/22/05/L3), and 44#Sportmix Premium High Energy ( Lots 03/03/22/05/L3).

Aflatoxin is a mold by-product that results from the growth of Aspergillus flavus and can be harmful to dogs if consumed in excess. Symptoms of aflatoxin poisoning may include lethargy, reluctance to eat, vomiting, yellowish tint to gums or eyes, and diarrhea.
