Dog Food Recall: Hill’s Pet Nutrition Voluntarily Recalls Select Canned Dog Food Due to Excessive Levels of Vitamin D

Cause: Potentially elevated levels of Vitamin D

Announcement: FDA recall notice dated Jan. 31, 2019

What was recalled: Hill’s Science Diet Canned Dog Food

Hill’s Pet Nutrition is voluntarily recalling certain canned dog foods due to potentially elevated levels of Vitamin D. The affected product was distributed nationwide through retail pet stores and veterinary clinics.

After a consumer complained about their dog showing signs of elevated Vitamin D, an investigation confirmed that a supplier error led to elevated levels of Vitamin D several canned dog foods including Hill’s® Prescription Diet® varieties and Hill’s Science Diet® varieties.

Symptoms of Vitamin D toxicity in dogs include vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased urination, excessive drooling, and weight loss. If your dog consumed the affected product, discontinue use and contact your veterinarian.
