Bravo Homestyle is a freeze dried dog food that’s minimally processed. It’s considered low risk with a score of 7.5. Three recipes have a fairly low average protein content of 38%. These recipes lose points for their high carbohydrate average of 25%. The recipes also lose ingredient quality points for excessive amounts of added vitamins and minerals rather than relying on the ingredients. However, amino acids haven’t been added so they’ve been provided by the whole food ingredients.
These foods also include chickpeas in the top 5 ingredients which is a problem as they’re known to be crops with high pesticide/herbicide residues. They also contribute to the high level of carbohydrates in these foods.
There is some use of glam ingredients in the pork recipe. This is when expensive or desirable ingredients like fruits are added to appeal to consumers but are in minuscule amounts. If these foods are below salt or other low concentration ingredients, they contribute little or no nutritional value to your dog. In this case, rosemary, sage, dill and fennel are added in amounts that would be negligible and unlikely to benefit your dog.
Additionally, the omega-6:omega-3 ratio isn’t listed. It’s important to know as omega-6 fats are inflammatory and AAFCO allows a very high ratio of 30:1.
